Why Are Album Cover Images Not Appearing in Communicator 5's Music Player Pageset?

Issue

Album cover images do not display in the Communicator 5 music player pageset for some or all songs.

Cause

The music player pageset pulls album art directly from the metadata embedded in the mp3 file itself. If an image was never embedded in the file, there is nothing for the pageset to display.

Files are often missing embedded artwork because it increases file size. Some ripping tools and download sources strip or simply never add cover art for this reason.

Previously, Windows Media Player (WMP) would automatically search for and embed album art when it imported music. WMP has since been retired, and the currently available download does not appear to offer this same automatic embedding functionality.

Resolution

The good news is that this happens outside of Communicator 5, so once the artwork is embedded in the mp3 file itself, the pageset will display it automatically.

Here's how:

1. On a computer (not your Tobii Dynavox device), use a third-party mp3 tagging/editing application to add cover art to the file. Many of these tools are free and simple to use — a quick search for "mp3 album art editor" or "ID3 tag editor" will turn up several good options.
2. Once the artwork is embedded, transfer the updated file back to your device the same way you normally add music.
3. The album art will now appear in the music player pageset.

We recommend making these edits on a computer rather than on the Tobii Dynavox device itself, since the device isn't set up for editing file metadata directly.
