Which mobile phones can be used with the Beam app?

October 03, 2018

Most Android smartphones should work with the Beam app however there is a restriction on the screen resolution to run this app.  The screen resolution of the phone must be set to 1920x1080 (or standard full HD display) or less.  This means that with the larger screen phones like the Samsung models that end with a + or with the Google Pixel XL models the screen resolution must be lowered from the default resolution on those phones.

Some phones that are not compatible due to the resolution include the:

  • Motorola Moto Z3
  • OnePlus 5T and newer
  • Samsung Galaxy S10e
  • Samsung Galaxy A30 and newer (currently A80)
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, 2S, 3, and Mi 8
  • Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
  • Sony Xperia 1
Other phones with non-compatible displays can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_high-definition_smartphone_displays#1440p.  It is possible to change the display for some of the phones listed here in order to make them compatible (such as the Samsung Galaxy S9).

To change the display resolution of your phone please refer to the phone's manual.
