A New Way of Communicating: AAC Assessment for Adults with Language Loss
Description This course will provide a framework for conducting dynamic, person-centered augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) assessments for adults experiencing language loss due to acquired neurological conditions. Participants will learn how to design assessment opportunities that invite communication and how to recognize communication successes, even when language has been significantly impacted. Through case-based discussions and practical demonstrations, this course will highlight essential considerations when selecting AAC “communication supports”, with a focus on honoring each communicator’s unique strengths, needs, and personality. By the end of the session, learners will have gained an understanding of practical strategies, resources, and technology insights to guide AAC assessments in flexible ways, thereby empowering and supporting every individual’s communication journey. Now, as a Learning Consultant, her focus lies in developing and delivering trainings to empower communicators and their partners.
