Training Type: Implementation Workshop

This implementation-based workshop will focus on the emergent communicator and how we can best provide Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) supports and strategies that help them realize their communication potential. Participants will review the stages of pre-intentional and intentional communication. Participants will then learn about low and high-tech AAC communication supports with the goal of moving our emergent communicators toward symbolic communication.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • List three characteristics of an emergent communicator
  • Identify two assessment tools for assessing emergent communication skills
  • Identify two high-tech AAC solutions that can be implemented with the emergent communicator

Activities and check-in will begin at 11:00 am. The Tobii Dynavox training will take place from 12:15 pm - 3:00 pm.
