Training Type: Presentations in a Box

Description:

Spend a day inside Tobii Dynavox’s ecosystem for symbol-based communicators.  Tour the Snap + Core First communication software and discover the evidence that informed its goals, organization, and vocabulary.  Experience through hands-on practice how this evidence was brought to reality to support engagement no matter the user’s skill level, literacy level, and experience with Augmentative and Alternative communication (AAC).  Learn about supports (free apps and printable materials) that empower communication partners to build skills in use of any AAC (low tech to high tech) in all areas of competence.

Learning Objectives:  Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Describe three evidence-based goals of Snap + Core First and how these goals are demonstrated in the language content and organization of Snap + Core First.
  • Compare the benefits and challenges of location-centered vs. size-centered growth in augmentative and alternative communication.
  • Discuss three support strategies for building communicative competence through augmentative and alternative communication.
Presenter: Casey Lacefield MS, CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist who is specialized in providing AAC services for adults and children with a variety of diagnoses and in many environments for over 15 years.  Casey is dedicated to encouraging independence and successful use of augmentative-alternative communication by augmented communicators and their partners.
