Training Type: Implementation Workshop
Course Description: This implementation-based workshop will focus on the emergent communicator and how we can best provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) supports and strategies that help everyone realize their communication potential. Participants will review the stages of pre-intentional and intentional communication as well as low and high tech AAC communication supports with the goal of moving our emergent communicators toward symbolic communication.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion, participants will be able to: (1) List three characteristics of an emergent communicator. (2) Identify two tools for assessing emergent communication skill. (3) Identify two high-tech AAC solutions that can be implemented with the emergent communicator population.

Presenter: Lindsey Frohn
Lindsey worked in a rehabilitation hospital for over six years as a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) before joining Tobii Dynavox. While working with a wide variety of diagnoses and disorders, she developed a passion for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to increase her patients’ abilities to communicate successfully. Lindsey is presently a Learning Consultant with the Learning Services team at Tobii Dynavox. In this role, she develops and facilitates internal and external customer training and implementation resources. Lindsey also presents at local, national, and international conferences about AAC topics.
