Participants will learn to use best practice strategies to complete AAC assessments and begin to implement AAC treatment strategies for children and adults.  Participants will create therapy plans including implementation strategies and goals in all area of communicative competence.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify components of a medically based AAC assessment and how to document these components in an AAC funding request
  • Identify 4 current implementation strategies considered best practices
  • Set operational, linguistic, social and strategic goals for a hypothetical client
  • Customize the settings on an AAC device to meet a hypothetical client's needs

Presenter: McKenzie Sauser

McKenzie Sauser, MA, CCC-SLP graduated from the University of Kansas with a Master's in Speech Language Pathology. She has worked extensively in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) with a wide variety of AAC systems. McKenzie has presented for the Kansas and Illinois Speech Language Hearing Associations, Missouri Assistive Technology, and various AT/AAC conferences. She also participates in ASHA SIG 12 (AAC). McKenzie has worked for Tobii Dynavox as an AAC consultant since 2013.
