IMPORTANT UPDATE: At Tobii Dynavox, we feel a responsibility to be advocates for the health and safety of our communities and customers. Given the rapidly evolving situation related to the COVID-19 outbreak, and out of an abundance of caution and respect, we have made the decision to no longer hold this session onsite at the J.D. McCarty Center in Norman.

Using an eye gaze device for communication, computer access, and to control your environment can be a challenging task. In this course we will discuss points along the journey to successful eye gaze use for communication and increased independence. We will review important expectations to set regarding eye gaze use, the skills necessary for successful set-up of eye gaze, ways to support eye gaze exploration, and guidelines for evaluation with an eye gaze device.  


Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:


·        Describe the four journey points on the eye gaze journey

·        Identify two features of communication software that support successful eye gaze use

·        Name two supports that help to increase independence for an eye gaze user

Formateur: Nuala South

Nuala South received her degrees from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist since 1981, specializing in the field of augmentative and alternative communication with children and adults with developmental and acquired disabilities. She has presented at a number of state conferences and local associations, as well as conducting workshops and trainings, all related to augmentative and alternative communication. Nuala has taught AAC at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and Oklahoma State University. Nuala has been employed as an AAC sales consultant for Tobii Dynavox for Oklahoma and Arkansas since 2008. She provides assistance with trainings, demonstrations, evaluations, and funding for communication devices for adults & children. Nuala has received the Gwen Cacy Award for outstanding clinician and Honors of the Association from the Oklahoma Speech and Hearing Association.
