Access to environmental control

An environmental control unit (ECU) can give you freedom and independence by enabling you to conduct a broad range of everyday activities at home, at work, in classrooms, in health care centers and hospitals – using only your eyes.

With a spinal cord injury, stroke or ALS some of the simplest things in life can become the hardest. From turning on lights, activating the air conditioner to opening doors, everything requires assistance. Environmental Control (ECU) can help. It can allow you to regain much of your freedom and independence by enabling you to control many devices in your environment, simply by using your eyes.

Many benefits of ECU

Environmental control works by remotely controlling IR enabled devices directly from your Tobii Dynavox PCEye Mini* or I-Series+ device such as the I-12+ or larger I-15+. With it you can take control of things in your surroundings at home, at school or in the office like doors, lights, air conditioner, telephones, TVs, DVD players, stereos, toys and more.

You can also use it to allow for easier socializing with friends and family.  If you have children, environmental control provides you with many ways to interact with them. You can play games or just spend time together watching a movie.

Easy access

While some environmental control units use switch activation, an eye control device like the Tobii PCEye Mini, an eye control unit (IR-sender) and software like Tobii Dynavox Communicator allow you to control many IR enabled devices using only your eyes. It is quick and simple. Just browse through a menu listing all enabled devices and choose the one you want to control.

*You need to have an IR sender connected to your computer, sold separately.
