Manager, Learning Design


We give people a voice. We help people with various disabilities “speak” with their hands and their eyes, interact and communicate with technology, in completely new and often game changing ways. The Manager, Learning Design will serve as leader of the Learning Design team at Tobii Dynavox. This role will lead the team in designing and developing world-class training experiences that empower those supporting individuals with complex communication needs to live their best lives: communicating, engaged and actively participating in life.


Role and Responsibilities 


  • Design and manage training and development programs based on the needs of internal and external customers
  • Deep knowledge of and ability to apply adult learning theories, instructional design models, assessment and evaluation methods, and industry best practices in learning, developing for performance ad results, and blended learning solutions
  • Assess current state of Learning Design internally and while considering market needs then create plans to enhance the future state of Learning Design  
  • Ensure the Learning Design team produces learner-centric, results-focused learning experiences and deliverables; update existing content that does not meet criteria
  • Design and lead development efforts for internal and external certification programs
  • Support the Tobii Dynavox continuing education program by designing and delivering engaging, multi-functional content for internal and external professionals
  • Partner with Learning Delivery roles to ensure smooth handoffs for instructor-led learning content
  • Maintain a keen understanding of training trends, developments and best practices; demonstrate understanding of social learning, adult learning principles, gamification, video learning, and micro-learning
  • Support product launches and the related learning design strategy
  • Conduct ongoing and timely performance assessments for Learning Designer performance and quality of work; provide coaching and feedback
  • Monitor and evaluate training program effectiveness; support the team’s analytics and reporting efforts
  • Create and support competencies and related programs and learning offerings 
  • Collaborate with Marketing to ensure all learning deliverables align to corporate branding and our desired customer experience
  • Collaborate with internal and external SMEs; conduct thorough needs assessments in diverse audiences; ability to run focus groups
  • Solid understanding of LMS and e-learning techniques and technology; able to support LMS implementation and maintenance
  • Determine continuance of existing programs and new programs to be developed
  • Collaborate with global training roles to promote content and idea sharing between business units
  • Participate in the design and development of learning deliverables to support team priorities
  • Engage Marketing and Sales to promote new learning offerings and programs

We are looking for someone who has:

  • B.S. degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field required
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field preferred
  • 7 years of experience in Instructional Designer and/or Instructional Design Manager role(s) required
  • Leadership experience required
  • Experience as a trainer/facilitator preferred
  • Experience in special education or Speech Language Pathology a plus

  • Proven track record using training to drive performance and business results
  • Strong learning program design, learning program management, and learning project management skills
  • Design and develop learner-centric learning offerings and deliverables in accordance with adult learning principles and relevant research in the field of training and development
  • Design learning offerings that promote the use of activities-based learning techniques in multiple delivery methods
  • Design learning content with considerations for the specific audience as well as facilitators
  • Design learning experiences which facilitate a positive learning environment in which learners feel comfortable asking questions and meeting their needs
  • Design learning events for continuing education credits within guidelines and expectations set for compliance
  • Provide a high level of customer service and support to key customers and learning initiatives
  • Design and develop learning for onsite, virtual, documentation, online, video, blended, and other formats / delivery methods
  • Align deliverables with marketing and brand guidelines as well as team and industry standards, processes, and policies
  • Demonstrate project management and strong organization skills while approaching learning programs and training events


  • Able to learn new technologies quickly
  • Microsoft Office and 365 - PowerPoint, Word, Excel, OneNote, Teams, Outlook; ability to effectively use Windows OS
  • Familiar with popular social media sites and applications such as Facebook and Instagram
  • TechSmith Camtasia and Snagit
  • Cloud storage solutions such as OneDrive and Box
  • GoToMeeting / GoToTraining and Video hosting solutions
  • E-Learning authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline
  • Adobe Creative Cloud suite including Adobe Acrobat
  • Learning Management Systems (LMS) and SCORM / AICC / xAPI
  • Favro / internal project management tool
  • Experience with Tobii Dynavox and/or Boardmaker products a plus
  • Recommend tools to enhance Learning Design team impact and productivity
